Thrifty Nifty Tuesday

I've been trying to find some great bargains for clients lately. I've come along some great deals that I just had to share with you. Some of these I haven't tried and seen in real life so I can't attest to the quality. If any of you have them in your home let me know if you love them.

Color Crush: Pink, Red And Peacock Blue

I love peacock blue, mixed with bright coral reds, and a little pink. I think this is a beautiful color combination. It would look stunning in an entry way or gorgeous in a bedroom. Use it in your fashion as well, I adore this color blocked look.

How to Upholster A Box Spring

I got this wonderful idea from Urban Nest to upholster the box spring. Since fully upholstered beds can run in the thousands, I love the idea of saving some money and using what you already have.
You can find how to upholster the headboard here.

This was actually a really easy project and took about an hour from start to finish. If you already have a box spring the cost is next to nothing. By upholstering your own box spring you can make a fully upholstered bed.

Supplies needed:
Sewing machine
Box Spring
Broadcloth fabric
Staple gun

Our box spring was a twin so these are the measurements we used. You'll have to sew together a couple pieces of fabric to wrap around the box spring. Our fabric was 45" wide x 60" long. We cut it in half at 22.5" wide. We then had 2 pieces that were 22.5" and 60" long.

At this point pin the two 22.5" pieces together on one side. For a total length of 180".
Sew down this line with a zig zag stitch.  We also sewed down the edges of the fabric to prevent fraying.
Now drape this over the side of you box spring, making sure you have enough room to staple on both sides. Pull taut and staple as you go.
Continue wrapping around the full box spring. We found it easiest to have one person hold the fabric and one person to staple.
Now I know my corners don't look pretty, but I'm not a perfectionist if you are I'm sure you can make prettier corners. But it doesn't really show, we just folded them under and stapled like crazy. It worked for us.=)

When we got to the end we made sure the ending point would be against the wall. We tucked it under and you can still see the line. So if that is something the bugs you make sure to put that area next to the wall.

If you want you can also add feet to make it look more like a "real" upholstered bed. It's a really simple project and I highly recommend trying it!

Guessing Game

Today, let's play a little guessing game! I thought it would be fun to have you write in the comments which pieces you think are the high end and which are the budget friendly version.  The difference in prices are astonishing!

It will be fun to play, and tomorrow I'll post the results with all the sources. Let's see if someone can get them all right!

Alphabet Wall

In the big boy room I designed we wanted the alphabet somewhere in it. We also wanted it to be as inexpensive as possible. So I'll show you how you can create one of your very own!

Supplies Needed:
26 frames (I prefer them all to match, it achieves a more cohesive look)
Scrapbook paper Around 50 sheets
Die cut machine

We got the frames at IKEA for $1.99 each. We also found some similar ones at the dollar store, unfortunately they didn't have enough so we opted to get the ones from IKEA. But it's worth a shot you might get lucky and find some.

Then we used a silhouette machine to cut out all the letters and the frames. We used the same paper for the frame and the letter in each frame. There's so many options you could do to customize it just for your room. You could have all the frames match, you might be able to do the same thing with fabric. Let me know if you try it! It's a great inexpensive way to add a focal point to a room!
