Design Dilemma: How to style the area behind your TV

I thought it would be fun to do a new series, where I answer some of your design dilemma questions. I love all of my readers and am so thankful to anyone who reads this lil' blog of mine. So let me hear it, what's your biggest design dilemma? Do you have a funky spot in your house that you don't know what do put there? Do you have either small or big space, weird windows, ugly sofa, or need help knowing how to mix patterns.
Well shoot me an email your biggest design problem. I'll answer some in a blog post if you're one of the lucky ones!

I got a lot of emails from people not knowing what to do behind their TV stands. It's a tricky spot, you're trying to hide that ugly TV but also want it easily visible for viewing. The best way is to add interest around the TV and draw your eye to the areas around the TV.

So here's some ideas for you.

Large scale artwork adds visual interest.

Hanging the TV on a black wall helps blend the TV into the background. Adding a large scale piece of abstract art with some fun accessories helps draw your eye to that area instead of the TV.

Lamps flanking the TV with two large scale pieces of artwork help style up this console table.

This gallery wall by Emily Clark is done beautifully. A gallery wall behind the TV is a great way to add more visual interest and help blend in the TV.

Another gallery wall option by Jenny from the the little green notebook. It's stunning!

Loving the asymmetrical balance of this styling.

What other design dilemmas are you having?

  4. Those are good! And awesome tips. I love that asymmetrical one, I've never seen that done so well. My husband doesn't want anything over his beloved flat screen. That'll have to be a while he's at work project...much like me painting the bathroom green today :)

  7. These are some great tips. I also love all the furniture that the TVs are on. We're still living in the stone age w/ a big fat TV and entertainment center, but I know one of these days it will die and then we'll be able to add something fantastic like your examples to our room. Thanks for sharing your inspiration. I'm now following your blog.
