I'm in the middle of doing a project for my nursery. Have you seen these pictures of fabric in embroidery hoops? I love the idea and it's very inexpensive, especially if you already have the fabric on hand.

Chalkboard Wall

I wanted to make a chalkboard wall in my kitchen. I found the perfect spot, it's a little out of the way so it won't take up to much visual clutter. Perfect for writing reminders, love notes, goals, quotes, entertaining the kiddos, lists, the possibilities are endless. The best part once I'm sick of it, I'll just paint over it.

All and all it was a really simple project. It took less then 24 hours to complete!

Design School Fridays

I thought I would start teaching an element or principle of Interior design every Friday. I am not a professional teacher nor claim to be. But I am hoping that someone might learn from it. These principles and elements are used by interior designer's everyday to achieve great design.
Today, were going to talk about Scale and Proportion.

Proportion is how the size of an object relates to the rest of the object. Scale is how an object relates to other objects or the space around it.

It matters in interiors because you want everything to be the right scale for a room, object or pattern. Scale can make or break a room. If you have a large sofa with teeny, tiny pillows something will look off. If you have a big sofa with a small coffee table it can be out of scale. You want your eye to flow through the room and if something is off scale you will notice. Here are some great examples of the right scale.

Everything in this living room is scaled well. The large sofas compliment the large coffee table and the chairs are perfectly scaled. The fireplace is also the right size for the grouping of furniture.

Scale is an important factor to consider when designing a room. Always look at the overall size of a room, as well as the scale of the furniture, artwork and accessories you want to place in it.

Of course once you know the rules, sometimes it might work to break them. A common misconception is to use a small sofa in a small space, however, using a large sofa can trick your eye and make the space appear bigger.

Today I need a little bit of sunshine. My daughter had surgery today and it was stressful, but everything went well and she's back to her usual self. But all that stress, makes me need more sunshine in my life. So I thought I would put together some bright sunny things to inspire me.

Poufs, Poufs And More Poufs.

I wanted to share with you some of my Favorite poufs! I love a pouf in a living room, for extra seating, or there great used as an ottoman. You could even use them as a side table with a tray on top.I think there fantastic in a nursery paired with a rocker, and they double as a seat for your little one! It's always great when you can get multiple uses out of one piece of furniture. They also add a splash of color without much commitment. Here's some of my favorites.

A great Moroccan pouf. They come in tons of different colors.

How fun are these sweater poufs! If your ambitious you could even DIY for cheap. But if your not up for that you can find them here.

I would love to see this pouf in a girls nursery. It would also make a good photography prop.

Big Boy Room

I'm working on a big boy room for a toddler, here's the inspiration board! I think it's darling, I just love stripes on a wall. I also can't resist an orange and navy color scheme. I hope you love it as much as I do. Enjoy!
