I'll show you how.
Start with this wood stain in walnut. The stain is water base and sooo easy to work with. The walnut is also the perfect color and goes with just about any color of paint.
When glazing don't be worried about getting it perfect. Glazing is all about making something look worn and imperfect so just embrace all the tiny imperfections!

Depending on how much you wipe off is how heavily glazed it will look. I did a really light glaze, if you want a heavier look just don't wipe off as much or you could do another coat.
Now, finish off with 2-3 coats of a water-based polycyclic. Lightly sand between coats of polycyclic and you done!

DeleteSo cute! I have always wanted to do that with furniture but it seems scary! Excited that I found your blog:)

Laura,
DeleteIt's so easy to do! You should defiantly try it. Don't be scared you can always do another coat of paint if it doesn't turn out and try again. Thanks for stopping by!=)
This is great! I have a high chair I've been wanting to do! Thanks for much for sharing! I found you on Home Stories A to Z!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great transformation! I love the color you chose! :)
ReplyDeleteOH my goodness I have a little rocker crib that matches that chair! I have sanded it down, and it has sat and sat, because I can't decide what I want to do... I think you have inspired me!! I think I will distress it, but hmmmm now what color to paint it! OH and I am coming over to say THANK YOU for the sweet lil note you left me on my blog about my bathtub/bathroom. That was SO sweet of you!!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Andrea
Oh I'm so glad it inspired you. It's the best when one of my posts does that for someone.
DeleteYour so welcome about the comment, I loved the transformation!
Great tips on glazing! I love that little rocking chair. I bought one at a yard sale, intending to refinish it, but I never have. You've inspired me to get it out and do it. I'd love for you to share them at my link party. It runs Tues-Sat. http://adventuresofadiymom.blogspot.com/2012/03/terrific-tuesday-7.html
ReplyDeleteRachel
Thanks for the tips! I am about to redo a dresser with glaze for the first time and can use all the help I can get!!
ReplyDeleteI love using stain to glaze. Thanks for the tip about General Finishes brand. Oil-based always takes way too long to dry.
ReplyDeleteIt's totally cute and it matches perfectly with the colors in the room:) Thanks for the pointers!!!
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!!! I was soooo wondering how people did it! Great tutorial!! I'm going to have to try this on my next furniture projects!
ReplyDeleteI sure would LOVE IT if you shared this at The DIY Dreamer.. From Dream to Reality! PLEASE :)

Deletevery nice sharing. thanks for sharing nice information.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! I have used the Ralph Lauren glaze before, but ever since they stopped selling it, I have been rationing out what I have left of it. No more! You have given me a great solution. Thanks a million!
ReplyDeleteOh you definitely have to try the general finishes. It's the only thing I use and LOVE it! Hope you love it just as much as I do.
DeleteNow I think I'll actually do something to my kitchen table!!! Thanks for the post, it was really helpful for a newbie like me. I have to subscribe to your blog now!!!

Thanks Ashley! It's really fun and easy to do. Let me know how your kitchen table goes, and if you have any questions. I'm happy to help. =)
DeleteI have a similar rocker that was my husband's when he was a child. His dad gave it to my son and I haven't done anything with it. This is so pretty. Thanks for the tutorial.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I've seen so many of these rocking chairs in the past - but never re-styled like this. HOW ADORABLE! I love the colors & the darling owl as well. This made me smile.
ReplyDeleteWarmly, Michelle
Featuring you tomorrow!!! Great rocker!!! Love this! XO, Aimee
